Lab Analysis

Analyses, by What's Actually Tested

You collect the sample; we do the microscopy. Choose by the science and the part of the building in question. Every analysis comes back with micrographs and an analyst-verified bilingual report. Results reflect the sample you send, at the spot and time it was taken — not a whole-home assessment.

Air sample · Spore-trap cassette · Home kits soon

Airborne Spore Analysis

What's tested: the air in a room, basement, or workspace.

  • Direct microscopy at 400× of spore-trap cassettes
  • Fungal spores identified & counted by morphology
  • Pollen, fibres & combustion particles noted
  • Compared against an outdoor reference (yours, or ours as backup)

Best for: occupant complaints, post-remediation air verification, confirming elevated airborne spores.

Air sample · HVAC / furnace filter

Air Filter Analysis

What's tested: the dust captured by your system's filter — a picture of what's been circulating in the air over time.

  • A sub-sample of the filter media mounted & examined under the microscope
  • Fungal spores, pollen, fibres & particulates identified
  • Reflects cumulative exposure, not just a single moment
  • Micrographs included

Best for: an over-time snapshot of air quality and screening HVAC systems.

Surface sample · Tape lift

Surface Growth Analysis

What's tested: visible surfaces — drywall, trim, window sills, ceilings.

  • Direct microscopy of a tape-lift sample
  • Distinguishes active growth from settled spores
  • Mould genera identified
  • Micrographs of what was found

Best for: confirming a stain is mould and identifying what kind.

Surface sample · Swab

Swab Sample Analysis

What's tested: textured, wet, or hard-to-reach surfaces — grout, HVAC interiors, corners.

  • Reaches surfaces a tape lift can't capture
  • Swab mounted & examined under the microscope
  • Fungal structures & particulates identified
  • Micrographs included

Best for: irregular or recessed surfaces; ductwork interiors.

Bulk sample · Building material

Bulk Material Analysis

What's tested: a physical piece of the structure — drywall, insulation, wood, carpet, ceiling tile.

  • Send a small piece of suspect material
  • Examined directly under the microscope
  • Determines whether it's colonized — and by what
  • Micrographs included

Best for: deciding whether removed or suspect material is affected.

Surface sample · Carpet swab or lift

Carpet Analysis

What's tested: carpets and rugs — wet, water-damaged, or suspected of pests.

  • Carpet beetle larval hairs (Dermestidae) identified
  • Mould in wet or water-damaged carpet
  • Fibres, dander & debris noted
  • Micrographs included

Best for: wet or water-damaged carpet, and confirming the presence of carpet beetle larval hairs.
